Foot & Ankle

It is estimated that 75% of all Americans will develop a foot or ankle problem during their lifetime. The physicians and staff of Fort Lauderdale Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine are dedicated to providing the proper diagnosis and comprehensive care for foot and ankle issues, in order to get you back on your feet as quickly as possible.

Many people assume that foot and ankle pain is an inevitable side effect of aging or participating in sports. We disagree. If you are experiencing chronic foot or ankle pain, you don’t have to suffer needlessly. Patients come to us for relief for all types of foot injuries and conditions, from minor ankle sprains to fractures and complex deformities due to diabetes and arthritis.

Among the foot and ankles conditions we treat at Fort Lauderdale Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine are:

  • Achilles Tendonitis: The Achilles tendon connects your calf muscles to the heel bone. When the tendon is inflamed from overuse and degeneration, swelling and pain may occur.
  • Broken Ankle: A broken ankle occurs when one or more bones making up the ankle joint are fractured, either as a result of twisting the ankle, falling, rolling, or trauma.
  • Foot/Ankle Arthritis: This results with age and overuse of the ankle joint.
  • Heel Fracture: This refers to the bone in the back of the foot, known as the heel bone. These breaks occur from high-impact injuries as a result of falling.
  • Heel Pain: This pain radiates from behind the heel, a sign that the Achilles tendon is inflamed. Skin may redden, swell, and hurt with the application of pressure.
  • Lateral Ankle Pain: This refers to chronic pain on the outer side of the ankle. It typically occurs after incomplete healing after a sprain.
  • Sprained Ankle: This common injury occurs when a ligament stretches beyond its normal range into an abnormal position. In severe cases, tearing occurs.
  • Talus Fracture: This affects the small bone between the heel and the lower leg bones.
