Outpatient Surgical Services Overview

Outpatient surgery means you will go home the same day as your scheduled surgical procedure. This can be performed either at an Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) or at a hospital based on your insurance and overall medical health. Our outpatient services include bone, joint, tendon and ligament surgical procedures, from the minimally invasive to more complex procedures, such as total knee, shoulder and hip replacements. ASCs generally cost less than a hospital and are generally less stressful on the patient. At Fort Lauderdale Ortho, your care and health is our primary focus. Having options for outpatient surgery, ensures our patients the safest, most convenient, and cost efficient surgical management.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is considered outpatient surgery? See More Details

When you have a surgical procedure and go home later that same day, we call it outpatient surgery. A rotator cuff repair, for example, may be an outpatient surgery.

How long do I have to stay in the hospital or Ambulatory Surgical Center following an outpatient procedure? See More Details

It can depend on the procedure, but for many people, they can go home between 1-4 hours after their surgery.

Do I need to take time off from work due to my surgery? See More Details

You should plan to take the day off work for most surgeries, even those that just require local anesthetic with minimal sedation. Depending on the nature of your procedure, you may also need additional time to recover and should discuss your specific circumstances with your doctor.

Will physical therapy be required after surgery? See More Details

In some cases, yes – physical therapy is a common practice after a surgical procedure. After a surgery, getting a full range of motion, strength and flexibility to return comes with time and is part of the overall process toward recovery. Your specific post operative rehabilitation needs will  be addressed by your surgeon.
